Yate Town 0 Yeovil Town 5
A unique tie
After defeating Dover Athletic of the National League in the 4th Round Qualifying of the FA Cup, Yate Town faced more National League opposition from Yeovil Town. A capacity crowd of 1600 packed into Yate Town’s Jelf Stadium (I misread it as Jeff Stadium originally and wondered who Jeff was), but the home supporters witnessed a comfortable win for the visitors. The game brought together two teams beginning with Y for the first time in the history of the FA Cup in any round.
First 30 minutes
Although Yate Town enjoyed almost the possession over the course of the game, Yeovil, known as The Glovers, started strongly and scored three times in the first thirty minutes. After 7 minutes, a corner was passed to Dale Gorman on the edge of the penalty. His first-time shot was deflected by Matthew Worthington to give Yeovil the lead. Seven minutes later, it was 2-0 when a Yate Town lost the ball on the halfway line, giving Yeovil the chance to break and score. Charlie Wakefield ran strongly down the right channel, cut inside and scored with a left-foot shot into the far corner. It was as good as game over when a penalty was converted by Dale Gorman to make it 3-0 after a trip in the area.
Bluebells continue to find Yeovil Town too strong
In the second half, Yate Town continued to battle away, but a fourth goal came when Yate Town failed to clear a long ball into the penalty area. This gave the chance to pull the ball back into the goal area where Adi Yussuf tapped home. A fifth just after the hour mark when substitute Lo-Everton was in space just inside the penalty and received the ball from a corner. He twisted and fired home a shot into the bottom corner of the net.
End of the road for Yate Town
It’s the end of the road for Yate Town, a club which plays in the Southern League Premier South Division. On Twitter, Yate Town conceded that they had beaten by a well-drilled side and sportingly wished them all the best in the rest of the competition. Yate Town come back down to earth when they face Taunton Town in the League, an important game between two of the higher placed teams.
Yeovil march on towards Wembley
Yeovil Town will have to wait another week to find out their opponents in the 2nd Round. They face either MK Dons or Stevenage at home in the next round.
