2nd Round Qualifying completed
It’s Tuesday. It’s the FA Trophy Weekly Review. If you would like to know more about my visit to Aylesbury United v Chipstead, you can read all about that here. You can also read about the sad state of Aylesbury United’s former home, which still has property developers trying to build houses on the plot. You can also hear about what you missed at Chesham’s Hats Off Festival – and more!
Over a quarter decided on penalties
There were 69 ties played last weekend in the 2nd Round Qualifying of the FA Trophy, 18 of which were decided on penalties. The most exciting penalty shoot-out took place at Clitheroe where the visitors, Liversedge, which sounds remarkably like liver sausage, ran out 10-9 winners.
Free Kicks Foundation and Great Wakering Rovers win
@fatrophyhound is hoping that you did not waste your hard-earned money on last week’s prediction. Sure enough, the banker between Chichester City and Great Wakering Rovers ended in a 2-1 for the Essex-based visitors. The one-goal deficit means that I will be making my first £10 charitable donation of the season. The first beneficiary of my poor predictions will be The Free Kicks Foundation, which aims to help ill, bereaved and disadvantaged kids to get to meet local football teams. Also, I guess there should be an apology to Great Wakering Rovers for underestimating their abilities.
Leek Town and Sporting Khalsa can’t stop scoring
Leek Town chalked up the biggest win of the round with a massive 7-0 away to Market Drayton Town. Leek Town now go on to face Basford United away from home. If you know where Basford is, your knowledge of English geography is better than mine; I had to use Google. For high scores, Sporting Khalsa deserve a mention. After winning 6-5 at home to Dereham Town in the 1st Round Qualifying, they scored six again, although they kept it tighter at the back by conceding three at Loughborough Dynamo.
Wembley on the horizon
The 3rd Round Qualifying takes place on Saturday 30th October when 78 more ties take place. You can see the full draw here. This round includes non-League teams from Step 3 as we edge a step closer to Wembley. The competitors in this round just need to win another eight more games to reach the Final. However, if they win in this round, they will benefit from the prize money of £2450.
