FA Trophy still another weekend away
Last weekend, there were no FA Trophy games, and there will be no FA Trophy games next weekend. It means there’s another week to wait before @fatrophyhound reviews the 3rd Round Qualifying of this season’s FA Trophy.
Yate Town draw on the Kent coast
Thankfully, I am taking a passing interest in the FA Cup as well. Starting with Faversham Town in the first qualifying round, every team that I have followed have lost their next FA Cup game. However, Yate Town have, at the very least, temporarily halted the trend by earning a second chance to beat Dover Athletic. Yate Town are not strangers to making long trips as they play in the Southern League Premier South Division, which means they compete against Truro City and Hendon. Their 186-mile trip to Dover was not in vain, as they will be taking the National League’s basement club back to Yate for a replay after drawing 1-1. For those unsure about where Yate is, think of Bristol and a bit to the northeast. Read the Dover Athletic v Yate Town report here.
Dreams of Hillsborough and Stadium of Light still another two rounds away
Of course, the 4th Round Qualifying of the FA Cup is the last round before teams from League One and League Two of the Football League join the FA Cup. If Yate Town supporters were dreaming of a trip to Hillsborough or The Stadium of Light, the chance of facing a big name is another round away as the winners of the replay have been drawn at home to Yeovil Town or Weymouth.
Minnows of the minnows
AFC Sudbury are the lowest-ranked that have made it through to the 1st Round Proper after beating Dartford 3-1; their reward is a home tie with Colchester United. Three other teams of the same level have difficult away replays after drawing at home to superior opposition. Supporters of Pontefract Colleries, Marske United and Marine will be hoping to defeat Halifax Town, Gateshead and Wrexham, respectively. The rewards though are meagre – Maidenhead United at home, Altrincham at home and Harrogate Town away. The biggest away ties for non-League clubs are Bowers & Pitsea’s tie at Lincoln and Harrow Borough’s trip to Portsmouth.
Sorry, Barrow fans
And now, to deal with the errata. On the back story on the www.fatrophy.co.uk website, I referred to suspecting that my travels will take me to Spennymoor or Barrow. I have since learnt that, much as I would like to visit Barrow, Barrow now play in League Two, so it will not happen. I have now unashamedly corrected this, so you can’t wind up Barrow supporters on social media.
Tn or Town
Secondly, in my Aylesbury United v Chipstead report last week, I referred to Mr Smiley and Mr Smile. I can confirm this is the same person. Thanks for taking the trouble to point this out to me, Josh, the Whitby fan. In case Josh is wondering, I can also confirm that, although the Non-League Paper showed the score as Warrington Tn 0 Whitby Town 0 this weekend, this is the same game as Warrington Town 0 Whitby Town 0.
T-shirts only available in size XS
Thirdly, I have received several communications about the name ‘fatrophy’ and ‘Fat Rophy’. Most of these have come from people seeking weight reduction programmes, it would seem. Just send me £99.99 to Ripoff Diets, and you can receive my best-selling book. Curiously, I have also been asked if there is a Fat Rophy t-shirt available. There is indeed a t-shirt available, but I only have XS size in stock at the moment.
More next week…
With no FA Cup or FA Trophy football next weekend, it’s the turn of the FA Vase entrants to get their moment of Cup glory. I’ll be back next Tuesday, previewing the FA Trophy games. It’s time now to see if the DPD driver has left a pile of Fat Rophy t-shirts on my doorstep in the rain.
